Leave a Lasting Legacy Through Mentorship

Nov 20, 2025

If you think back to your teen years or young adulthood, there is probably someone who comes to mind who mentored you. Whether a teacher, professor, coach, family member, or older friend. We can all recall someone who poured into our lives and spoke truth. The greatest of those mentors are the ones who speak gospel truth.

In the book of Titus, we find guidance for older women in the church and their communities, as well as the importance of mentoring younger women.

“Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” Titus 2:3-5

No matter your age, there is always someone younger whom you could mentor and pour into spiritually. Mentorship isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about being willing to walk alongside someone else as you both follow Jesus together. Here are a few ways you can practically live this out.

Be Intentional About Investing in One Person At a Time

Pray and ask God to reveal one person you could come alongside. Mentorship isn’t about numbers; it’s about depth.

Share Your Story Honestly

Once you have someone you are actively mentoring, share your story with them. The mountains and valleys, and how God has been with you every step of the way. God can use your testimony to touch someone else in ways you cannot even fathom.

Model Faithfulness Not Perfection

Young women need to see that faithfulness is built in the mundane — in quiet obedience, steady service, and resilient hope.

Pray Over Your Legacy

Ask God to multiply your influence in ways you may never see. The seeds you plant today will bear fruit long after you’re gone.

At the end of the day, remember that the greatest impact you make may not be a class you teach or a bible study you lead, but the younger woman you encouraged through mentorship.

Reflection Questions:

  • Who has been a spiritual mentor in your life, and what did you learn from them?
  • Have you thanked her for the impact she made in your life?
  • Who might God be calling you to invest in this season?
  • What kind of spiritual legacy do you want to leave behind?
