Have you ever had someone break a promise they made to you? Maybe the broken promise wasn’t even intentional but it wounded your heart. It caused you to question that person’s word– a trust was broken. Depending on the details of the situation, it may have caused you to lose faith in not just the person who broke the promise but any person who makes a promise to you in the future.
Often, our earthly experiences influence our heavenly understanding. If we’ve been hurt by broken earthly promises, it can be difficult to see God as a promise-keeper. The definition of a promise is ‘a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.’ Let’s look at three ways we can trust God to keep His word.

God’s Holy Word Tells Us So
The first way that we can trust that God keeps His word is simply because Scripture tells us. Hebrews 10:23 gives believers this assurance, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” The ‘he’ in this verse refers to Jesus. We can rest in knowing that whatever He promises to His children He is faithful to fulfill.
God Has A Flawless Track Record
The second way that we can trust God to keep His promises, is because He has a flawless track record. The Old Testament is sprinkled with stories of God fulfilling His promises to His children. From Noah to Abraham, and Moses we can see God’s follow-through on His word. These stories help us to see God’s faithfulness throughout history. They help us to see that He has always been faithful and He always will be.
God Never Changes
Lastly, we can trust God’s promises because He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Through every decade, year, and week we can trust that our God is never-changing and always the same. That is a difficult concept to grasp for humans that change daily. We grow in height, in maturity, and our hair grays– every year changing into slightly different versions of ourselves. God, however, is constant. He is always the same and that is why we can trust Him
No matter what your current earthly understanding of promises is, you can rest in knowing that God has never broken a promise and He never will. He always makes good on His word. He has a flawless track record. He is always faithful. He is never changing and constant.
