The holiday season can be joyous and celebratory but often can be stressful and emotional. Strained or difficult family relationships, overbooked calendars, and attempts to make the season memorable can be more burdensome than uplifting. Keep reading for three timeless Biblical truths to keep you and your family grounded and hopeful this holiday season.
True rest is found in Jesus
In the book of Matthew, Jesus says, “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Jesus invites the weary to rest in Him. In the rush of the holidays, remember authentic rest is found in our Savior.
Ultimate peace is given by Jesus
In the book of Isaiah, we can see the prophecy of the coming Savior, Jesus. “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and he shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Jesus is the Prince of Peace! If you feel uneasy this season, pray that He grants you His peace, peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Jesus is big enough to handle your anxiety and worry
The psalmist writes, “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.” Psalm 94:19 When you feel the weight of anxiety this season, the to-dos, the expectations, and family interactions, remember to stop and pray. Jesus cares about your worries because He cares about you.
No matter what your holiday season looks like this year, remember these three simple truths to remain hopeful- Jesus is the source of true rest, He is our ultimate peace, and He is big enough to handle our worries and anxieties.
